At SIAL, held in Paris, ABIEC and ApexBrasil will address the food safety and sanitary quality of Brazilian beef

As part of the Brazilian Beef project, at one of the world’s major food-industry events, ABIEC and ApexBrasil will share data and information on Brazilian beef-raising

In partnership, ABIEC, the Association of Brazilian Beef Exporters, and ApexBrasil, Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency, will be taking part in the SIAL Trade Fair, one of the world’s leading food-industry events, the 2022 edition of which is being held in Paris, France, from October 15 to 19.

Their booth will occupy an area of 990 m2: 20 associate companies will be participating directly. During the fair, attendees will learn more about the quality and safety that make Brazilian beef so widely appreciated by consumers in 157 countries. They will be able to sample the delights of the traditional Brazilian churrasco, and the organizers are predicting that more than one tonne of beef will be served at their stand.

This year, Brazil is going to discuss the issue of sustainability, addressing its three basic pillars: environmental, social and economic sustainability, and will reinforce how Brazil’s beef industry can contribute to meeting the United Nations Organization’s goals, demonstrating that Brazil’s beef complies with the strictest standards of food safety and sustainable production.

Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic the last time Sial Paris took place in a face-to-face setting was in 2018, when US$ 220 million was generated in business, and almost US$ 1 billion in future deals. This is the first major trade fair in Europe to be held since the removal of sanitary restrictions: for that reason expectations for the 2022 event are very high.

Market

The European Union is among the major destinations for Brazilian beef. Last year alone Brazil exported 77,200 tonnes of beef to the continent. This year, from January to September, consignments to the EU came to 59,774 tonnes, up 15.9% over the same period in 2021.

About ABIEC – www.abiec.com.br

Founded in 1979, the Brazilian Beef Exporters’ Association (ABIEC) represents 39 beef-industry companies in Brazil, which together account for 97% of the beef sold to international markets. It was set up in order to make Brazil’s beef exporting industry more active, by defending its interests, and by boosting efforts to bring down trade barriers and promote Brazilian products. Brazil currently produces approximately 10 million tonnes of beef, about 26.1% of which is traded with dozens of countries worldwide, and production complies with the strictest standards of quality. Over the last decade Brazil has seen the value of its exports grow by 135%.

About the Brazilian Beef Project

The sectoral project ‘Brazilian Beef’ was begun in 2001 as a partnership between ApexBrasil and ABIEC; its goal is to strengthen the image of beef produced in Brazil, by improving the perception of its quality among importing countries and thus extending Brazil’s participation in the world market for beef and other meats. Nine projects have been signed over 18 years, with investments totaling upwards of R$60 million and with export volumes growing by more than 500%.
